Statics, MEEN 225, is the foundational course of mechanical engineering. It builds on the basic understanding of forces from PHYS 206 to survey how forces transmit between rigid bodies in static equilibrium. Some vector concepts are used from MATH 251 for 3d problems, but besides that MATH 151 and 152 are the requisite mathematical foundation. This class builds intuition for force transmission which will be used in later classes like MEEN 305, when we look at the stresses throughout solid bodies, MEEN 363, when we look at dynamic systems, and design classes in which mechanical intuition is critical.
